Westport Academy is a full Title I school that serves PreK-8th grade students from the community of Westport. The administrators, teachers, and support staff are dedicated to ensuring all students will receive quality instruction, real-world extended learning experiences, and tailored supports designed to meet each of their diverse needs. Through the core values of respect, responsibility, and readiness, we believe our students will be prepared to successfully lead and serve in the greater community.
Meet the Reading Partners team
Sierra Safak is the site coordinator at Westport Academy Elementary. She runs the reading center and will be your go-to source for any questions you may have during your time as a reading partner. She is always available during your tutoring session to share tips and tricks, review lessons, and help keep your student on track.
Sierra Safak
Welcome! Sierra is a first-year AmeriCorps member committed to helping children succeed inside of school and out. She is a former Reading Partners tutor and has seen first-hand the tremendous positive impact that Reading Partners has on our students and communities. She hopes to empower students to become lifelong learners and encourage them to be confident, fluent readers with the help of our wonderful volunteer tutors. She is excited to work closely with tutors this year to help our students reach their goals!
Adrienne Luciano
Pamela Bennett
Pam Bennett is a Senior AmeriCorps Member Regional Site Coordinator from Silver Spring, MD. She spent her first year of service, with Reading Partners, as the site coordinator at Abbottston Elementary. When she is not working with students to discover the joys of reading, she works with color guard groups that range from 3rd grade students to college level. Overall, she is dedicated to helping students and is delighted to be part of the Reading Partners puzzle.
Shannon Held
Shannon Held is the program manager supporting Westport and is thrilled to contribute to the Reading Partners team. After completing her bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, she served as a Teach For America Corps Member teaching elementary literacy in Miami, Florida. Teaching third and fourth grades, she saw the direct and powerful impact that building skills and confidence in reading had on students. During her time in the classroom, she mentored and coached new teachers as a literacy content leader and a Corps Member Advisor. Shannon completed her master's in education from Johns Hopkins University and continues to strengthen her passion for literacy through service to students in Baltimore City.
